Can thermostat be repalced without removing timing belt?
I've done the TB service before on my '98 A6 but I can't remember if I can replace the thermostat without removing that... Anyone knows?

Sadly completely impossible. The two bolts are underneath the housing for the thermostat. I was pretty pissed about this myself as I forgot to replace mine with my first timing belt job and it froze a week later. Oh well....
