Flywheel alignment to crankshaft
I took off the flywheel to replace the rear main seal and I forgot to mark the flywheel position relative to the crankshaft. Can someone point out how to re-install it correctly? The factory manual and the Bently do not cover this alignment.

let me ask this a different way
With the crank at TDC, what is the position of the large window of the trigger wheel on the flywheel?
|
I haven't worked on the V6 flywheel, but on other Audis I've worked on, the bolt holes ONLY line up one way, as one hole is off-center if you will.
Line up, and look closely with flashlight at holes while rotating flywheel with respect to crank, should be only one way that all holes line up. |
thanks -- I'll try to line it up with the old flywheel bolts and then installed the new bolts.

So do you know where the trigger wheel window is when @ top dead center is ? I'm in the same situation.

The reply was correct. The holes on the bolt circle are not evenly spaced. One bolt will only install with the flywheel in the correct orientation. I ts been too long so I don't remember the position of the trigger.
