FWIW my friends/family noticed the difference without me saying anything after i got chipped. "hey is your car faster?" =) i wish i had it still =( it really perked up the motor, gave it a performance feel that we lack off the lot. Surely the price is a bit high so it's more worth it if you can pick up a used chip!

I just put a GIAC chipped ecu in my 99.5 A4 2.8, I had to run 91 octane or it knocked like mad where I used to run 87 without problems on my stock ecu (mostly freeway commutint). The 91 costs more but I also gained about 2-3 mpg which about evens it out.

The GAIC chip give the car a bit more pull in mid range but I mostly feel it most in the higher RPM, it pulls harder up over 4k where as the stock ecu felt like it was run out at higher RPM. Best time to feel the difference is getting on the freeway when you're hammer down. In my opinion the power feels smoother too.

It's not a "night and day" differnce but $250 shouldn't kill anyone driving a decent A4, I picked mine up in the classifieds for $150, well worth it for me. Next I'm going for the tip chip and I've been looking for a deal on a PES super charger too so maybe my GIAC ecu will end up back on the market.
