That sounds expensive...what other mods are you planning...the RS4 turbos?

Jeff Vader - boscoj 10-28-2004 08:26 AM

Here is one post from the S4 forum

Basically trying to do all RS4 stuff . . .

Someone asked about ceramic coating so I took some more photos and posted this.

These parts are all sitting on my kitchen table so I haven't actually used any of this stuff yet but here's the idea.

We were trying to optimize each side of the air pump (engine). We wanted to keep the intake cool and the exhaust hot. We used two type of ceramic coatings. One is a dispersant coating trying to keep things cool and the other is a barrier coating trying to retain heat energy.

Here is a shot of the barrier coating applied to the stock exhaust manifold.
<img src="http://66.134.70.69/files/audi/Replika/124-2446_IMG.JPG">

The next shot of the turbo shows the barrier coating on the exhaust side and the dispersant coating in the compressor side.
<img src="http://66.134.70.69/files/audi/Replika/124-2448_IMG.JPG">

The entire exhaust side is coated trying to retain energy. Here is a down pipe.
<img src="http://66.134.70.69/files/audi/Replika/124-2416_IMG.JPG">

The intake manifold was cleaned up, intake bells were smoothed and then dispersant coated.

Another turbo pic.
<img src="http://66.134.70.69/files/audi/Replika/124-2450_IMG.JPG">

And the whole reason we did all this was the heads.

Not important: are all those parts "spare" so that you actually still have a running car?

Those're some thorough mods you're doing! Nice!

Jeff Vader - boscoj 10-28-2004 10:21 AM

Yeah, I've basically been collecting parts for 3 years . . .

<center><img src="http://66.134.70.69/files/audi/KO4%20Conversion/engine%20removal/124-2444_IMG.JPG"></center><p>but now the engine is out and I'm getting ready to bolt up all this stuff

akula-ssh 10-28-2004 10:30 AM

I was gonna say "you've got a spare complete engine?!"

Have fun with the install! :)
