Default MAF Died again?

This is the second time now I can assume thus far that my MAF has died. The first one was three months old. It was a reman hitachi model. My friend owned the car before me. I purchased it off of him. My CEL kept coming on telling me I was running very rich on both banks. After stumbling around in many areas trying to find the issue, I checked the MAF values with the vag-com.

Originally, I had these readings.
@idleB1s1 is -7
@partB1s1 is -25
@idleB2s1 is -7
@partB2s1 is -25

Also logged block 002 and it said the MAF was reading a minimum of 7.5g/s and almost would bounce to 8.0 at idle.
from the knowledge I had received it should not meter anything above 5g/s@ idle.

So i bought a new remanufactured hitachi MAF from the dealership. My problem was solved. This was about a month and a half ago to 2 months.

A few days ago, i started up my car and noticed the idle was very high. CEL came on. Said my Secondary air injection was irregular or somethign of the sorts. I also had a rich condition again on both banks. Cleared the codes and went about my way. The SAI problem has not been back, but now my MAF is reading off the charts again witht he exact same issues as it had when the first maf went out.

Is it safe to assume that this one went bad as well? Am I just having some bad luck or is this more common than i think? Could something else be contributing to this?

Thanks for any assistance to give me any peace of mind.

Well, wiped off the sensor(two electrodes or whatever) with a qtip really well. Soaked up the literally pooled oil on the K&N, did a TB Alignment, cleared the codes and started the car up. Idles and started up perfect. MAF reading were perfect once again. No CEL. Took her out for roughly 10 miles.

The K&N was literally soaked in filter oil. i soaked most of it up with a paper towel.

I'm willing to bet this may have been the issue. Filter oil getting on the sensors.

Default Yep sounds like the oily K&N strikes again..

I'd either get rid of the K&N or keep cleaning the MAF wires as you do regular maint.

Default use a filter cleaner and get all that oil off and respray it very lightly and dry with a blow dryer!

or just go back to the paper filter... better yet upgrade to the BMC intake

Default

Well documented issue with a K&N filter. I just stick with OEM paper filter.
