Default Coolant temp sensor

Replaced the sensor last night. Wasnt as easy as I has hoped. Talk about a knuckle scraper. Doesnt look like I even needed one though. Think cluster is busted. Gas and Temp guage work only ocassionally. Was hoping it was just the sensors, but guess not. I heard the cluster is really expensive. Just have to rely on distance to empty and hope the car isnt overheating. Anyone else had a bad cluster?

I had heard that a bad coolant temp sensor sometimes wont trip the computer. Do you know how to diagnose a bad cluster? Would that trip the computer?

Default Use VAG-COM to check the cluster for faults and check inputs from various sources.

There's a lot more to VAG-COM that pulling a few codes from the ECU.
