P1411 - 17755 - Cam Position Sensor 2
Hello!
I've got a B5 A4 w/ 2.8 30V V6 and came across a code:
P1411 - 35-00 - 17755 - Camshaft Position Sensor 2 (G163) / Engine Speed Sensor (G28): Incor. Correl.
Now, this got me thinking, maybe the sensor is bad?
I haven't been able to test the sensor yet because I'm not sure where it plugs into the harness to test with a voltmeter.
Interestingly enough I've also read that the 'Incorrect Correlation' error most likely means that the cam timing is off on bank 2 in correlation to bank 1.
Timing belt was changed a few months ago, and I got to thinking that perhaps the timing is actually off.
Checked with VAG COM and found the following:
Bank 1 is off by 13KW and bank 2 is off by 16KW?
I've found differing information on what normal readings are. Some say +- 6KW? Another post I found state -20 to 15KW are acceptable.
Strange thing is though, the car has been running perfectly fine after the belt change and there are no other codes.
Do you think this is the reason I am seeing the cam position sensor code?
What should be my game plan at this point? Obviously the timing needs to be fixed, and I can address that.
Could there still be an issue with the sensor?
I've been driving around like this for a few months without any problems at all. Engine idles fine, accelerates normally. No obvious problems.
Help!!
Thanks!

With that code. its never a sensor, but if you really want to make sure just swap the 2 and see if it changes to bank 1. But Its always timing is off. Timing Belt tensioner could have failed. Chain tensioner could have failed. I would not drive it untill its solved thats for sure. Maybe your guy didnt use the proper tools and used marks and the belt was barley in time so no check engine light, but as the belts wearing and tensioner is wearing its very possible to have moved right beyond the spec of setting that code.
