Secondary Air Induction Fan / Homelink/Gas cap lock
 

So this is the situation. In May 2017, my water pump blew up and had to be replaced as the car very quickly overheated. Before this, I had no engine lights on and all my electronics worked properly. After the repair, I noticed my garage door opener no longer worked. Hm.. no big deal. The next morning, I noticed a loud whining noise on startup that lasted 20-30 seconds and my check engine light was on. I searched forums and found it was likely the secondary air induction fan failing. A couple days later I noticed that my gas cap no longer locked. So, not knowing what was going on, I just let it go for now. Recently I brought a VAGCom and ran the scan. All three issues started while my car was in the shop as the date on the fault is the same day as when the shop had the car. So, now it seems to me I may have traced the source of the three issues. Anyone had anything similar? Would you agree with my assessment? Thanks for any input.
