2000 A6 4.2 Valve Guide Seal Problem per my Mechanic & Extended Warranty
I just got word from my mechanic that the Valve Guide Seals on my 2000 A6 4.2. (Exhaust Valve Guides I believe that he said) were causing oil loss. I have an aftermarket extended warranty on the car through Royal Administration Services. The mechanic told me I should take the car to the dealer because this is a $2500-$3000 repair and Royal Administration services is terrible and will do everything on earth to avoid paying the claim even though it is clearly covered under the terms of the extended warranty (he said they will claim inadequate maintenance or some other grounds for not paying),
I guess I will make an appointment with the Dealer and I will bring the warranty info. I paid a lot for the extended warranty and want to make sure that I do everything possible to ensure that this is covered.
Has anyone had this problem with their car? How much did the repair cost? Any ideas on dealing with the Warranty company? Are there adjusters that will work for a person (rather than an insurance co?
Any help would be appreciated.
Also the mechanic suggesting switching back to regular motor oil as this will decrease the problem with oil loss to some degree (I am using Mobil 1). Strangely the engine seems to run just fine and there is no noticeable smoke although the mechanic says there is a small stream.
HELP! Thanks.

Re: 2000 A6 4.2 Valve Guide Seal Problem per my Mechanic & Extended Warranty
Hi,
My 2000 A6 4.2 also had the valve guide seals replaced, luckily under warranty - they had to take the engine out to do it! It took 4 days, so at Audi, it is going to be expensive.
Hope this helps.
