Default 2002 audi a6 4.2

Hey everybody. I'm in the market for another car and I'm currently looking @ a 2002 audi a6 4.2 with around 150k on the dash. The guy only wants 1,500.My previous car was a 97 audi a.6 wagon. I believe it had a 2.7. Long story short I fell in love with it.

Now I'm not a noob to Audi's but no master either. I'm aware of the transmission issues, moreso in automatic transmission versions and more or less the 3.0. The issue is this guy is saying, and I quote "Selling black Audi A6 4.2 automatic quattro runs few dings but overall a nice car! Slips into gear at times from 1rst to 2nd gear was told it was a shift selonoid from the codes that were generated"

I plan on getting the transmission rebuilt anyway, I have a local mechanic that specializes in foreign cars. I just want to know is there anything else I should be asking before making this purchase. Is replacing the shift solenoid a band-aid fix or should I just replace the whole thing. Any help would be awesome. I really want this car but the price is making me hesitant. I'll post pics of it
