2004 4.2L engine (same as S4) reliability for allroad???
thinking of buying 04 allroad with 76k miles (mostly frwy), which has the same engine as 04 S4 but different tuning and 300hp not 340hp. This one has tiptronic and the improved torque converter seal.
I love the sound of it and my current car is 01 allroad with 2.7L biturbo. The V8 appeals to me as it does not have timing belt (chain) and turbos to worry about. How reliable is this beast of an engine?
What are some weak spots? My 2.7L has the problem with gaskets leaking and turbo related stuff.

I haven't heard of any major problems with the 4.2 AR. You might want to check
with the AR forum.. You'll probably get more responses there. By the way, you can buy a chip from APR that will "unlock" the extra 40hp.

Are you sure about that? The 4.2 in the S4 was designed for the S4, therefore it does not have the belt it has the chain. They had to do that to make it fit the A4 chassis. I'm not too sure the 4.2 in the Allroad is the same motor. The 4.2 in the A6 has the belt.
