2004 A8 Quattro, Loud Engine Knocking and oil sludge

1 Attachment(s)
Recently purchased 04' A8, it has extremely loud engine knocking sound and excessive oil sludge.
The noise was pretty loud at first but then after 5 min of engine running the noise would go away. Then about week later the noise would not go away and became louder. So we opened the Head Case and discovered that there is excessive oil sludge and build up. We believe that the oil is not circulating properly.
Also we need torque specs in order to repair the cams from the oil sludge build up.
WE NEED ANSWERS TO THIS POST AS SOON AS POSSIBLE FOR WE ARE NOW WITHOUT A CAR. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP

wow.......talk about the previous owner not changing the oil...gosh i would pull the lower oil pan and check out the pickup screen for the oil pump. I would about consider a replacement engines thats not been so abused, i doubt if you fix that its going to have much in the way of life left.

I would have to agree with Prospeeder, as a newcomer to the Audi VW world but a long time mechanic I think it's safe to say that Audi engines have just as many and probably more oil passages to be blocked off by all this sludge. Not to mention the wear that has already occurred from driving ???miles with the engine being starved for oil. May be money ahead to replace it than to have all the parts/labor in tearing down and cleaning this engine. Just my $.02
