4.2 S5 Engine removal without lift

Is it possible to remove the engine and transmission without a lift by removing the front end dropping it slightly and sliding it forward? Thanks, Chris

It's $159 bucks to rent a lift for a week from United Rentals here in Georgia. Throw it in the back of a buddies pickup truck and pay the gas and spring for a pizza. Then he's obligated to help!!!

I'm almost 4 hours away, otherwise I'd lend a hand.

Did you ever get to pulling that motor?

United rentals in central fl didn't have the lift.

I'm ready to drop it as soon as my balancing bar comes in tomorrow. The only way I can see it maybe working without the lift is a cherry picker from the side, but the back of the motor/ trans will be sitting on one of the rails from the cherry picker. Then once it's sitting down I have to try and use the cherry picker to lift the front of the car and HOPEFULLY slide the motor/trans etc out of the front opposite side. It's gonna be hell but it's my only shot short of spending 2K on a lift!

Why wouldn't you be able to just pull the motor from the front, with the whole front end off, leaving the transmission in? Good luck my friend! Pictures, pictures, pictures, please!?

That was my original question but nobody had any input on it. Im wondering if with the engine, trans and all other supports out it might leave the rest of the front end so loose it risks damage. I might not have a choice anyway!
