4.2 transplant
Is the 4.2 engine and transmission from an 05 A8 the same as what are used in an 05 S6. I am looking at an A8 parts car with 13,000 miles on it to replace the 3.2 in my A6.

So there is a picture of the engine I am looking at and one I googled from an 05 A6. Obviously they are different, but is the one in the A8 too long to transplant? Anyone? I'm going friday to check it out, auction is tuesday.

The 4,2 V8 in the '05 S6 (C5) is an 077 series belt-driven motor, that of the '05 A8 (D3) is an 078 series chain-driven unit.
Of the two, the one in the C5 S6 will be marginally longer, though the engine bay of your C6 A8 is long enough to accept either.
