Hi i currently have an a6 4.2 and was wondering about if it is at all possible to swap out the old v8 for the rs6 v8.

Considering all the parts you'd need to switch, it would be cheaper to sell your car and get an RS6.

Even if i sold my current 4.2. what if i found engine under 10k? Would labor costs make it so it is still impossible?

the install of the 4.2 tt would probably be around 3k.

There will also be the need for a new transmission, since the one in the A6 can barely deal with 300 hp. That in itself can be 10-15K for the RS6. Then there's the cost of a new front bumper to properly fit the IC's, new ECU, new TCU, exhaust, the list goes on.
Plus, with all this power, bigger brakes (and in turn wheels) as well as an upgrade to what may well be an 8 year old suspension system are a must. When you add all this to the cost of the engine, and top it off with labour, what will you really have to pay?
