Are A8's flex fuel ready?
We are getting a new pump of E85 at a local gas station. This stuff is 40 cents cheaper than regular and making it almost 80 cents cheaper than premium (what I usually use). I have a 2000 A8L and proud of it for the last three years!

Please No!
E85 is a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. It is the most commonly available blended fuel for use in flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs).
Ethanol is a corrosive alcohol that will degrade common steel and rubber fuel system parts on conventional vehicles. Flex-fuel vehicles are manufactured with synthetic and/or composite fuel system parts that can tolerate high levels of alcohol.

Does that sound like something you want to use with out knowing for sure?
I know that my orings on my fuel injectors were badly cracked when I replaced them last year. Wonder what E85 would have done to them in 8 years. (maybe they would have been easier to pull out?)
Also E85 will severely effect your gas mileage. Less BTU per gallon. Some where around 30% ! Is that worth saving $.40 gal?
Lets do the math. (hey I'm back in school I need the practice)
Lets say normally I get 25 miles to the gallon on the Istate. So on 10 gallons I can go 250 miles and with the current hike in gas prices Premium 93 octane cost $2.45 a gallon so that 250 miles on the Istate cost $24.50.
E85 25mpg goes to x .7 = (get out the HP 32S made in 1987 - just think, in 5 years it will be an antique calculator)mpg will go to 17.5mpg !!!!!
So to go that 250 miles it now takes 250/17.5= ( crap got to remember its an RPN calculator, get beer, 250, enter, 17.5, divide) 14.3 gallons of gas at .40 cheaper $2.05, enter, 14.3 times is $29.32
How You Feel About That Cheap Gas Now? (add another 10% if you like tozo's number)
