Any Easy Way to Check Fuel Pressure Regulator ( FPR)?

I rented the kit from O'Reilly's and none of the provided fittings would fit. It was a brand-new kit and had all the indicated fittings.

I checked at the FPR on the vacuum line, with the engine running and at idle it's pulling 20-23" vacuum... but when I d/c the line the zero vacuum does nothing to the idle. The FPR holds vacuum fine, and there is a relatively steady 20-25 which changes to 5-15 as you rev the car, like it should. Also pulling 30" with a mity-vac does nothing at idle.

If I d/c the FPR and plug the line would the engine throw an additional code, or would I just burn a hole in a piston?

Thanks for advice.
Tom

PS Trying to cure P1130 , P1128 (fuel trim, system too lean, intermittent). one is bank 1 other is bank 2
