Default Anyone else considered...

... applying any of the Gallardo motor's tweaks to the 4.2? I mean, the Gallardo's V10 is based on the 4.2's architecture... basically just an A8 motor with two cylinders added that's been balanced, blueprinted, had its headwork and intake work done by Cosworth, etc.

I'd think you might be able to get closer to 100hp/L with high-performance 4v heads to replace the stock 5v head...

Anybody thought about applying the R&D that went into the 5.0L V10 to the 4.2L V8?

Default If you look down a few posts at what I wrote a little earlier I mentioned that :)~ ...

The 97 A8Qs are 4.2L with 4V heads and not 5V...

I think with the greater airflow/intake with the 5V heads there is a greater possibility for power.

If/when I get some spare funds I want to experiment with tuning software like lemmiwinks on my A8 and see what we can do, and then as a next step get larger fuel injectors and tweak a second time to see what kind of power gains we can get from just that. Intake and exhaust after that and then maybe all-out forced induction. There is a forced induction kit for the A8/S8 out of Brazil that could be fitted to the A6, Allroad, etc.

With deep enough pockets, anything is achievable.

Default uh.. not that easy to just "add" on 2 more cylinders... I've had some success with Lemmiwinks tweaks

though... I considered getting the S6 cams and intake manifold, but the cost for hp was ridiculous. Some free flowing "custom-made" headers and a larger and freer flowing exhaust would make a big difference as well, but the market for 4.2s hasn't been that big. Now that the B6 S4 utilizes a 4.2 V8, it should open up a few doors. However it sucks for the A6 4.2 and A8 guys since the S4 V8 is a shortened and turned around version of the engine, so nothing's swappable. sucks! =(((

A supercharger would be ideal, but again, no one has one yet.

Default Adding two cylinders isn't the point...

... point is that the V8 could probably benefit from many of the same tweaks (headwork, etc.)...

I always wondered about head work. I ported and polished heads on old american V8's. worked wonders

Default right, i was just using that as an example.. also note, that the tranny used in the 4.2

... actually all of the automatic trannies used are the weak points...a level10 tranny upgrade should also be in order along with all those power upgrades.. trust me.. i blew my tranny, i know. =)
