Default Anyone lived or heard of living with Long term Oil Consumption??

I have a 2000 A6 4.2 with 80K. It uses 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles. The engine runs fine without smoking etc. Audi says it is fine. The feeling is that it is the valve seals. My question is assuming that the car continues to use 1 quart every 1000 miles, will this ruin other things (like the cat. converters) and slowly ruin the car. 2 mechanics said it wasn't a problem at this rate but another advised me tonight that he feels the cat. converts will fail within a year (I have to add 15 quarts each year not including oil changes). I have been having this issue for a year. Thanks for any thoughts.

Saabotage - my Saabs leaked oil but I have a 1994 Audi 100 that burns about a quart every thousand miles. I have 160,000 miles on the car & apart from the fact that the Check Engine light leads me to believe the O2 sensors are in sad shape the car performs wonderfully.
