Audi A8 4.2 - shuddering...

Hi Everyone,

I have an A8 L 4.2 on a 2005 registration.

Last week I was out driving and took off from stand still at moderate speed and the car suddenly started to accelerate quite roughly. The EPC light started flashing and the engine management came on permanently.

The car shudders rather annoying whilst idle and isn't running smoothly at all.

The EPC light comes on and off intermittently ....

I have read it could be the coils on the cylinder ?

I have little knowledge but could do with some advice before I take it to dealership...

Many thanks.

Hi Kevin, welcome; did you try searching here on AW (AudiWorld)? If your search works I'd try limiting it to the 4.2L engine and A8-D2 and A8-D3 forums (since the vast majority of these have the 4.2 gas engine). Search on here sometimes doesn't work right, you can also try Google and limiting it to AW by including site:audiworld.com in your search box (no space between "site:" and "Audiworld").

Where are you? (fill in your location/car in profile).;)

Have you considered a VCDS cable from RossTech? It'll pay for itself the first time you use it. Also if you fill in your location there's a chance someone will offer the use of theirs; you could try asking for anyone willing to lend you some VCDS time in the regional forums as well.

EPC is Electronic Power Control, so its a Drive by wire issue. Electronic Throttle body, pedal on floor, wiring, and the ECU itself. Just take it to the dealer or whoever you have fix your cars and see what they find.

Many thanks, I'm in the UK... if it is this, have you any idea how much roughly it would cost just so I have an indication of how much I should be charged ? My mechanic is a sole trader { Audi time served }

I read on the forums it could have been some type of coils ?

Thanks again.... I'll complete my profile now !

Kevin.

Depends on whats wrong. He must diagnose the failure first.
