Default Cam chain tensioners 4.2 Audi Quattro 2004 S4 station wagon

Hi Audi virgin here from New Zealand but looking at buying a 2004 S4 Audi Quattro 4.2 V8 wagon.

The car is very tidy but has just over 100,000 ks all of which was clocked up in Japan. I have asked the seller if the cam chain tensioners have been serviced as I have heard this is a common problem and an expensive one to get serviced if they need doing. I can only assume they haven't been done because there is no Japan service history included and the seller is first NZ owner.

What is the ballpark cost to do the tensioners and would you do cam chain and idlers while you were at it? I've heard it's an engine out job. What else would you take care of while the engine's out?

How common is the cam chain cam tensioner problem?
