Engine surge/stumble A8Q 4.2
1998 A8Q 4.2 107K miles. Engine stubles and surges when throttle is closed on flat to downhill. Coasting downhill at 60 MPH when throttle is closed RPM will go from 1800 down to 1200 then surge/stumble back up to 1800 and repeat several senconds later.
I also notice a slight continuous surging pulling a slight grade about 40 MPH at 1100 RPM or so.
No codes have been stored. All filters are fresh.
I suspect an ignition problem but the mechcanic is stumped. I also know about ignition problems that are fuel related, ha ha ha!
