Default Well, on the D2 A8's we have that same problem.

It's where the transmission "hunts" for the right gear, but actually your torque converter is worn. The only thing to fix that would be a rebuilt transmission. One way to "fix" that is to put the gear selector into tip mode when you are driving over 35mph. That's interesting you're getting that problem though. I thought only the A8 transmission had it. How many miles are on your vehicle?
If you would like tons of information on "hunting", I suggest you search the D2 A8/S8 forum using 80919 and 22012 in the Account id: filter and transmission hunting in the Search for: field

Default Wait, 123 miles or 123,000 miles?

Either way, try putting it into tip mode when driving between 30-40 mph and see if that helps.

Default On the gear selector,

there is an area to move the shifter over marked with "+" and "-" when the shifter is in "D". So, when you are driving between 35-45MPH, move it over and it should stay in 4th gear.
