Oil leak
 

Hello everyone! I need help. I recently purchased a 2007 Audi a8L. I have an oil leak but I can't find where it's coming from. I notched a leak around my lower oil pan , coolant line, etc. so I had that replaced. Turned out it was just the gasket was worn from being upstate. So now there's no leak around the lower oil no oil anywhere I can see. But I changed the oil added 9 quarts, now 10 days later my oil light came on I had to add 4 more quarts. Any suggestions?

I have a 2007 A6 with the 4.2l engine with 120K miles. I recently had found the sources of my oil leaks. One was from the valve cover gaskets since oil was leaking into the spark plug wells. The other source was the o-ring from the oil filter housing where it mates to the top of the engine. This o-ring compresses over time causing a metal to metal contact where the oil ends up running down the front of the engine and at this point is hard to determine where the source is. I had to remove the intake manifold to replace the gasket. While I had the intake manifold off I cleaned the carbon off the intake valves. The oil filter housing o-ring is an apparent problem with the 4.2 l engines.

Wow. That's great information thanks! I changed my spark plugs about 3 months ago and they were filled with oil I figured the oil would just burn out. Well I've already ordered my valve cover gaskets for left and right side. Also bought a can of sea foam. I'll keep you posted after I change it this week! Thanks again!!

I suspect that you have another source of an oil leak besides the valve cover gaskets. You will notice that the old valve cover gaskets are very brittle.

You may need to remove the intake manifold to verify. The o-ring in my above picture is the figure "8" o-ring. I also ordered the o-ring in the back as a preventive measure.

Does that have anything to do with oil leak? Only on the right side the first two cells had oil in it. Removing the manifold what will that show me? Would I need another one manifold gasket?

Oil in the spark plug wells would tend to stay in the wells and not drip down the engine. Removing the intake manifold you could tell there is another leak source if you have oil present in the valley, most likely the figure 8 o-ring. You would ideally need to replace the intake manifold gaskets (quantity 2).

Today I replaced the drivers side valve cover gasket and I also replaced the oil filler cap gasket. It seats much tighter now. I also rotated the engine and cleaned the remaining intake valve.
