Default overheating part 2

I have a 2001 a6 w the 4.2. It started overheating a few weeks ago. It would get to normal temp and then slowly creep up to about a notch from the top. It would stop if I'd turn the heat on high, and it didnt get better on the highway so I figured it was the thermostat. But I havent heard the fan spool down when I turn the car off lately, could that have something to do w it?

Sure might want to check your thermal switch for the fan not coming on. The other thing it can be is your water pump may be going bad.

How many miles do you have on it...?

I just noticed today that my car was leaking. could something as simple as that be causing all my problems?

Default Just had overheating problem too.

It has happened before with the thermostat sticking so I replaced it and all was good.
But 2 days ago it stuck again and left me stranded on the side of the road. I went ahead and ordered a new t-stat and whole T-belt kit ($600) and am replacing it tomorrow. T-belt was about due anyways.

You probably know this, but make sure and change your oil as soon as you fix it.
