i want to buy an s4 and do some stuff to the engine to make it real fast. someone at a shop near me told me that the 2002 model can be hooked up real easy because of the turbo and if i buy a giac chip for it, it will add like 75 horse power. he also said someone he knows made an 02 so it had 400 horse power. and he said that you can barely do anything to a 2006 unless you spent 20,000 dollars. that would probably workout better for me anyways because i love the look of the 02 models but i wanted to get your oppinion on this?

Re: 06 is a nicer car, but less tunable. It all depends on what you value more.

an '06 S4 or a BMW 335i/xi. In your case, I would say get a 335i because for a little money you can make it FAST. Chip and exhaust on one will bring it into the 4.2-4.5 0-60 times and around 13.0 in the quarter mile. A used '07 can be had for 38-39k.

The B7 S4 is an unbelievable car, just not what you are looking for.

Only reasonabley priced mods on the '06 are GIAC chip (nominal difference) and exhaust (gets very $$ if you do a full-back).

Twin Turbo in the '02 has a lot more tuning options.

I like the V8 for the growl ....
