Thanks Re Rings and Oil Consumption on 00 with 72K. Update & Big Question
Thanks for the responses re: oil Consumption and Rings. After some initial panicking, I discussed this issue with the Dealer and a local Audi/Porsche mechanic. Audi states that although it is not clearly not desirable to have this level of consumption that it does not present a drive-ability issue. They drove the car and it runs great. Also there is no spoke or signs of oil burning on the tail pipes or rear bumper, etc. They basically say what others have said which is just to make sure that the level stays where it should and the car may never burn more than it does now.
They did recommend replacing the oil cap with a "ventilated cap" and I could also replace the "oil suction pump" Part no 077-103-245-B for $240.00.
Is anyone familiar with the parts above? Although $240 is not a large amount of money given the other repairs in the last months I don't want to waste it if it won't make a differnce.
Finally the BIG QUESTION. Has anyone had high oil consumption for an extended period of time? I would be VERY interested in knowing if any people have had a 4.2 with high oil consumption for an extended period. I am just trying to determine if the engine has another 30K in it or 60K or more in it before bigger problems related to the oil consumption issue develops.
Thanks again from a formerly panicked 4.2 owner. Aside from having to check the oil the looks and runs just fantastic.
