Default Transmission cooler lines into a new radiator

Hi I have a 2006 audi a6 with the 4.2l v8 and I ended up getting a leak in my radiator and I had to replace it. I got it in and what I'm not sure of is how to make sure I don't ruin the "o" ring seals on the transmission cooler lines. I'm kind of afraid to push too hard and rip the o ring has anyone done this before and had a bad experience or am I worrying about nothing any help or advice would be helpful.
