V8 4.2 S6 C5 supercharger sound at hi rpms! wtf!
Hello!I don't know if this is normal I have like 2 months with the car, the thing is when I reach like 6000rpms or more there is a constant sound like a supercharger, the car is totally stock S6 saloon 2001 tiptronic.
could this be maybe that the extra intake opening in the air box is opening and making that sound?
I fixed some vacum lines the other day to the combi valves or whatever they are called and also some at the front.
the car idles great btw.
this is the car.
greetings from mexico!

Have you found the mysterious noise?
I also have a sort whining noise at high rpm in my A8. It comes from the passenger side speaker. It is also present when the stereo is off, so something is emitting quite a bit of electrical interference. I will probably re-route the cable to the speaker to get rid of the noise.
If this is nothing like what you are experiencing you could try to listen to different bearings in your engine. There are "stetoscope" tools for this, or you could use the old earprotection and screwdriver trick. You put on hearingprotection and stick the metal end of the screwdriver on your engine near a bearing and then you put the grip on the screwdriver to your ear. The engine must run, and this way you amplify metallic noises in your engine. Be careful doing this since the engine is running.
