v8 swap need the speedometer?

Default v8 swap need the speedometer?
I expect to buy a salvage s8 to swap the engine and transmission in my coupe quattro, but the ecu and the speedometer as been sold. Do this engine run ok without the speedometer and is there a difference from s8 and a8 ecu?

It will run. The vehicle speed signal comes from the transmission driver's side front axle.
