Will mpg improve on new 2015?
Hi All,
I am a new member and a new allroad owner. About two months ago I purchased a 2015 premium ( plus nav and heated seats at a great price :-} ) - I only have driven about 1200 miles, 80% highway and am not too aggressive (really!). Checking the MPGs via math, and not the on-board, only getting about 22 MPG. Yikes! This is not what I was expecting. Please tell me it will improve over time....
I really like the car, well except for the wind noise with the opened sunroof. They should never have changed the design from retracting into the roof to retracting on top of the roof.
Thanks

Welcome 4dtwo,
As you may already know so many factors can have an impact on your MPG. Acceleration, braking, speed and wind drag, loads, weather, etc. Including a break in period. 22 mpg on the highway is definitely low but give your car at least 2k more to break it in. Once my '14 allroad was broken in I got the advertised 27 mpg on the highway (summer time at 110 km/h) and 24 mpg in the city. Winter is a completely different story.

Winter - I've observed that, even on the highway, the winter mpg in my 2014 Allroad is very considerably lower. I expected the city MPG to take a hit, but the lower highway MPG surprised me. BTW, my winters involve low outside temps - often 0 to 10 degrees F.
What's your experience been with winter highway mpg?

Welcome aboard!
Are you traveling thru the hills of snowy Colorado or table-flat highways of S Arizona when measuring your fuel economy?

Roger_1,
Fellow Canadian, let's talk Canadian. Winter temps here average -15 to -25 C. I did some winter highway driving earlier this year but to be precise it was not the same driving conditions as my summer test. Meaning more stop/go and lower speeds (90-100km/h). There was a considerable drop in mpg but I would like to emulate the summer test to have a fair comparison. I'm running 17" winters so I assume that can be a part of it. As for city day to day I'm curious to test the effect of the Supplemental heater. From my understanding it kicks in below a certain ambient temperature upon start up and turns off once that is exceeded. I'm curious what, if any difference, it may have if it is turned off.

I would think my Michelin X-ice tires, at 32 psi, would account for some, but not most, of that deterioration. I'm wondering if perhaps the denser air causes the MAF and computer to add more fuel to the mix.
Around town, mileage is, as expected, abysmal, but that's a product of low temps (causing a richer fuel-air mixture while the engine is warming up) and very short drives (5 minutes or so).

In the northern US we have Winter blend gasoline that also contributes to lower miles per gallon (less attributable pollutants but also less energy per unit). My mileage starts to decline in November.
To the OP - you'll note improvement with some add'l miles. I've kept track of every tankful since new in an App and it took a few months to average 26 or better MPG, and again drops off a bit in Winter.
