The CarPlay firmware update worked for my intermittent issues.

What is "car play" firmware? are you referring to IOs? or Audi's multi media interface's firmware? I am about to pull the trigger in a 18 and do not want to come back for a MMI upgrade.
Thanks

The firmware is something that the dealer installed. Firmware typically modifies the control of the CPU, which is based in the vehicle in this case.

It was a simple thing that just made things work more consistently- no worries for you.

Are you referring to the MMI firmware/code or the actual CarPlay board attached to the MMI?

BTW I understand what a firmware is (I write storage controller firmware ).

Verbatim from the Repair Ticket:
"Customer states they loose CarPlay at times. He will need t restart car over to get CarPlay to working again. Performed VAS6150 Diagnosis. No related fault. Found TSB 2044853/4 applied. Performed software update for Gateway Control Module to 03098 as per TSB guideline. Installed Battery Maintainer. "

In the Service Advisor's own words: "We updated the firmware."

2017 AR P+ and iPhone X using iOS 11.4. Continuing to have issues when using Carplay. Connection randomly drops out while driving, "Connection Manager" message appears and unplugging/plugging does nothing. Only way to fix is to restart car or force reset MMI. Love the look, driving this car but all these buggy electrical, MMI issues is really making me consider selling and going with another brand....unfortunately.

I have the Car Play issues too and maybe another simple annoyance or two. I have never had to restart the car to resolve them. I would bring into my dealer to get that resolved. Having said that, I can't imagine a better car in this price range, that beats the AR in any important way. I'll say it again - best car I ever had.
Until it gets fixed - or at least mitigated, enjoy your ride.

They are in fact working on a service solution for this. Give it time, I couldn't agree more that this is an amazing car!

I am running the latest public beta of 11.4.1 and CarPlay has been the most stable it's ever been. Went on 500 mile drive over the weekend without any issues. No crashes when the parking cameras were engaged and only a slight delay on initial launch once maybe every 4th or 5th connection. No crashes at all once it was up. Feels like things are getting better.
