Default Headrest question

Does "comfort head restraints" mean the headrests can be adjusted forwards and backwards as well as vertically? Haven't been in an Allroad yet, but considering it possible replacement for my 2015 VW Golf Sportwagen TDI, and lack of headrest adjustment is a major comfort problem. for me.

Per the digital version of the 2017 A4 allroad manual:

I haven't had the need to adjust the headrests back or forth in mine yet, just up or down.

Looks like there is some possibility - time for a test drive. Thx!

It easily adjusts fore and aft. And the headrest is actually quite comfortable, because you can position it exactly as you want, and it is soft on the forward facing surface, which is rather nice.

This is actually one of the nice, unheralded features of the car. My recent vehicles took the cheap way out in conforming with the rear impact safety standards. The standards (as I understand it) require that headrests allow only minimal rear movement of your head when you're rear-ended. So unless I reclined the seat more than I was used to, the headrest would push my head forward.

The fixed headrest pressing the backs of heads (and hair) was a big complaint among some women in the South (interfered with big hair).

Audi seems to have found the sweet spot, between a soft surface on the headrest yielding to a firm core.

And isn't big hair out of fashion?

In our case, my wife's spine is fused, so can't conform to the seat when reclined enough not push her head forward. I have other back issues, and prefer to follow the guidelines for posture when driving to protect the back: 5 - 10 degrees back from vertical. At that setting, almost all headrests will push the head forward/downward.

Maybe out of fashion, but in some quarters, it's still Gospel that "The higher the hair, the closer to God."
