"knock knock knock" coming intermittantly from RF wheel well during driving...
... today on the way home from work. *When* it did happen, its sound increased in frequency of the three-knocks directly with my speed (5-15 mph in slow traffic) but went away when I was on the brakes. Now, I preface this with the fact that my ABS control module is shot, so sez the $tealership (after I took it in for the ABS + brake warning lamps coming on intermittantly). The aforementioned effect happened when the ABS + brake lamps were alight on my instrument cluster.
My question is this - This is the first time I've heard this mild clicking or knocking whilst driving the car at slow speeds since the ABS light thing started happening about a month ago.
Could it be that the ABS control unit (pump & motor) have decided to apply brakes to that front wheel hub and what I hear is the brake pad & rotor being contacted by what the module is sensing is wheel lock-up? How concerned should I be if braking is regular and very efficient, otherwise? Additionally, I don't hear any "screech-screech-screech" that one would normally hear with a rotor/pad rubbing during normal driving when the brakes are off - I've experienced that, and this isn't it. It's more like a mild "clunk clunk clunk" that only happened at very slow speeds tonight in 1st gear at about 10 mph creeping along in rush-hour congested traffic.
Thanks!
BTW, I *will* get the ABS control module replaced as soon as I find a new one for a pretty good price from a non-$tealership within the next month or so.

It could be the brake pad came loose.
I had a similar problem. It was during slow starts and stops. And using reverse. The pads slips back and forth in its housing making a rather loud noise. They said the glue came away. Audi replaced my pads and rotors. And I was three months out of warranty.

Are the R and L front ABS sensors interchangeable? Other possible issues if ABS kicks in 'early'?(m)
