Default seen it 3 times...

oil leaks into the coolant, and sludges up. you need a really good coolant flush(after you replace the oil cooler), might as well replace the t-stat while you're there. use shout spot remover(shout it out!) in the coolant system, and run a garden hose thru it with the engine running, and a good oil change. how much is the dealer charging for the repair?

sucks, doesn't it?

Default A question regarding your flushing method...

I've never flushed the coolant in my car, so bear with me...
You're suggesting that he open up the drain for the coolant, run the garden hose wide open into the coolant tank, and start the car? Isn't there a possibility that the water pump could run dry (even if only intermittently). Couldn't that damage your water pump??? Wouldn't it be safer to drain, tighten drain plug, fill with water, run engine, and repeat those procedures until you're satisfied that you've flushed it well?

Sorry for being a nitpick, it just seems to me that he could do damage to his car if he does this wrong...then again, I could be completely wrong!

Parts are going to be around $210 I assume it may take 4 hours for a $ 500. + bill.

Default Hmm never tried the garden hose technique on the audi...but I have on other cars

and usually you'll find that the garden hose will more than keep up...

A garden hose with decent pressure will provide more than the pump can handle... It will be fine...
