Default 1.8T engine serial number location

For the US crowd, this info is irrelevant as no one there cares what the engine serial number is and where it is located. So, I am posting this just FYI since some other countries require that the engine serial number be verified before the car is registered. In my case, finding the location of the imprint on the engine has been quite a task. Even the local Audi dealer had no clue. With the help of the local Audi tuner, I was finally able to find it.

The number is imprinted with little dots (like a dot matrix printer) on a black sleeve of the engine block, in the back (towards the firewall), where the engine bolts to the transmission.

(1) Unscrew the three screws holding the plastic coolant tank and disconnect the harness underneath it in order to get the coolant tank out of the way.

(2) Unplug the black harness (oil pressure sensor?) just above the sleeve where the serial number is imprinted. The plug can be seen in the last two pictures, after the cable has been disconnected.

(3) Now, from the side, shine some light onto the sleeve. You may have to wipe the grease off the sleeve before the dotted number can be seen.

This is the location of the serial number for the 1.8T AWM engine. I have been told that older 1.8Ts have it imprinted somewhere else. Now, where is that ingenious VAG engineer that thought of putting this number in such an awkward place, so that I can slap him?
