120 amp alternator IS a direct fit item for the 1.8t -- updated with pics
I just installed my 120amp bosch alternator.
It was a breeze. No service position.
Remove the upper radiator hose, throttle body hose.
Disconnect the cruise linkage from the throttle body.
Take the fan clutch off.
Then unbolt, and slide out.
Old 90amp vs New 120amp
Note electrical connections and mounting points match identically.

Out with the old puny 90 amp.
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/18518/dscn3170.jpg">
In with the new beefy 120amp
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/18518/dscn3171.jpg">
Position the new one.
Presto! Direct fit 120amp alternator!
Everything is a direct matchup Electrical connections, mounting points, etc.
To all that said it's not possible IT IS POSSIBLE and a very easy upgrade.
Here it is installed

Whats the part # or from what MY Audi/VW???
also a 120amp is nothing to get jumping off a bridge.
I remember my 97 MKIII Vr6 had a 220-225 Amp. Anyone wanna explain why an Amp that size?
220amps can power a house!!

actually I see the 97 mk3 has a 90amp and 120 amp alternator.
220amps would be a HUGE alternator.
The part # I don't have off the top of my head, the 120 amp is the option they ask you.
Go to any worldpac site and it shows a 90amp or 120 amp for the a4 1.8t
I just enjoy having the extra 30 amps of output since I am running aftermarket stereo equipment.
Plus the alternator won't have to work as hard as the 90amp would under the same loads.
It was dying so why not upgrade?
It's $200 for the reman bosch in a bosch box with a lifetime warranty.
not a bad deal IMO,

Alternator swap for Audi A4 B5 (2001) 1.8T. Will 90 amp -> 120 amp need new pulley?
Don't want to be annoying, but I've read on other forums that you actually have to change the pulley, and a fuse too if I remember correctly. See the threads below...
Audi 1.8T... (The 90amp and 120amp are supposedly compatible... But might have size differences between different 120amp models.)
(http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ake-sticky-%29)
MK3-MK4 1.8T... (MKIV and the MKIII 120 amp alternator are interchangeable, the pulley on the MKIV 90amp is different than the MKIV 120amp and should be swapped (MKIII same pulley). Regulators for the 90 and 120amp are also interchangeable. Alternators from 70A to 120A all have the same diameter pulley. The only differences are that the offset of the pulley are different between the 6cyl and 4cyl motors, as well as the 6/7 rib difference. Belt sizes don't change. SUMMARY: MKIII with MKIII, MKIV with MKIV (pulley swap), V4 with V4, V6 with V6)
(http://forums.subdriven.com/showthre...to-VR6-120-Amp)
MK3-MK4 1.8T... (Apparently fit straight in there, pulley AND fuse. Keep the 110A fuse that is on top of the battery, don't switch to the 150A fuse... but some guy had the tensioner pulley snapped because it was not centered on the accessory belt.)
(http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...ator-DIY/page2)
Audi 1.8T 120amp swapped on a GTI 16v... Pulley swap.
(http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...Amp-Alternator)
Did the new 120amp alt came with a new pulley, if so did it fit? If not, did your old 90amp alt pulley fit straight on your new 120amp alt? Did you have to change a fuse? Was anything else not a straight fit? Just asking cause the link you provide (http://tinyurl.com/qjyzj) is for a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta III GLX VR6 120amp (or 90amp) alternator, hence my thoughts of a non-fitting problem.
Sorry for still having doubts after such a great post. Just wanna make sure I don't have to do this operation twice. <¨_P
Thanks a lot!

So, I have a stupid question. I have a 2002 Audi A6, but it has a bad alternator. I know someone who is parting out an 2002 Audi A4. Can I take the alternator from there, or is it a different kind?
