15w-50 a bad idea?
moving to Tucson, AZ end of the summer. temps wont drop below +10F here anymore...and if they do im packin up and leaving!
k03 @ 1 bar as far as turbo sys. goes... thanks..never tried such weight..ive been using 5w-30 and 10w-30....wondering if the 15w-50 will be better for summer in AZ? |
15w 50 in my car, running just fine.
|
Yeah.
Engine will really strain to pump that stuff. Mine also ran hotter. Plenty of protection with lighter weight synthetics.

Re: 15w-50 a bad idea?
How many miles on your car?
If u have over 60-70K miles then the 15w-50 is right up your alley..if u got low mileage then stick with 5w-30/5w-40/ or 0w-40 |
72k...73k by this friday

how much hotter would you say it was running?
i dont really understand oil specs that much even after STFAs. But from past experience, it seems 5w30 came out blacker than 10w30.

Ohh...Arizona heat= 15w-50 mobil 1 is your best friend
|
about 20 degrees
Enough to bump the needle. Switched to 0W-40 and it went back down. Also get better flow to the turbo when its cold.
|
According to your owner's manual it's alright. I use it in the summer here in Denver.
|
I run it on the track now. Happy with it -- oil temps down 5-10 degrees.
