Default 1996 A4 cd situation

What is the situation witht the 1996 sound system? Is it a sweet sounding system? What about the CD player? Is there one? If not, what do I have to do?
Peter J. Tseronis

Thanks, Andy. So, do I have to buy the Alpine-made from Audi? If I go after-market, any suggestions? Am I limited by after-market vendors?
Peter J. Tseronis

You can buy the Alpine-made (Audi-badged) 6-disc changer from a Audi dealer, an Audi dealer that sells parts over the Internet such as Clair Parts (although I'm not sure if it's listed on their site or not) or from an independant mail-order outfit such as BLAUfergnugen or Adirondack Auto Brokers.

I seem to remember someone trying to hunt one down a week or two ago and they were having difficulty finding someone who had one in stock for a decent price. Be prepaired to spend between $425 and $550 for it (approx. price).

Sorry, no idea about the aftermarket head-units.

Default If it's a CD changer you're looking for...

You've got two options.

1) Buy the Audi Alpine made changer to go in your trunk. No one ever made an adapter harness for the 96/97 Delta system so you've got to go with the OEM part. Unfortunately, this means big bucks. Check Clair Parts under the 2.8 section. (Don't ask me why they don't have it under the 1.8 also...) The good news is that it's a relatively easy install so you can save yourself the $ by doing it yourself. There's a FAQ on it in the electronics section.

2) You can buy a new headunit. For me this wasn't an option as I really wanted to preserve the "classiness" of the red lighting and felt that all the headunits out there were way too flashy. I believe there was someone on here who put in an Alpine (?) 3 Disc In Dash changer that didn't look too bad. Maybe he can help you out.

Good luck!

Scott.
