1998 audi a4 quattro 2.8L 30V.. noise trouble
On my vehicle when I'm moving at 10-40 MPH when I let off the throttle I get a clunking noise from the right side of the vehicle. Sometimes it will clunk twice, sometimes it wont. I'm wondering if it could be motor mounts, or possibly a bushing or mount in the rear?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I've had 2 (B5) VW Passats, (same engine and basic drivetrain) that have had a similar problem. One had a bad snub mount on the front of the engine. The other had a CV shaft (axle joint) going bad.
Does turning at low speed effect the noise at all? If yes, then probably CV. Get a good look at the rubber boots for cracks.
Does the engine move (tip front to back) with an acceleration/deceleration? Snub mount.
...not that those are the only things it could be.
