Default 1999 A4 Quattro w/1.8T Runs Rough

My 1999 A4 Quattro began running rough with the Check Engine Light blinking two days ago. I changed the plugs to Denso Iridiums and the light went off after a few cycles and the car drives great. Today the car began idling rough and is severely lacking power as well as shuttering at speed. (CEL blinking again). I had the code read at Autozone and it claimed a cylinder 3 misfire. I switched the ignition coils for cylinders 2 and 3 to find the code still read a cylinder 3 misfire. Are the plugs the only thing left to check before going to a mechanic? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance for responses.

Also, does anyone know of a link, or have personal knowledge, of what is involved in changing the plug/coil wires.

I'm no serious mechanic so I just took out the old plugs and put in the denso iridiums. Could the cylinder 3 plug be improperly gapped. The same code was read the first time the CEL came on (Cylinder 3 Misfire), before I replaced the plugs, as after. Could this be an erie coincidence? Just an afterthought.

Check your ignition amplifier (on top of the airbox)

No! I had no idea...thought it was just plug and play. Guess I really should not be a do-it-yourselfer, just trying to save money. I'll check into that, thanks.

Default I think they come gapped at 0.040" and you want more like 0.032". Though...

the car should still idle OK.

Default What am I checking on the ignition amp?

Is this complicated? Should I just take it to a mechanic?

Default try using stock plugs.. i know the denso's seem like they are great, but my a4 hated them, did the

same exact thing. just get the stock $2.89 el-cheapo plugs and i think you'll be good.

Default But if you waaanted to check the amp...

It's pretty easy. When one channel of mine went out, it looked like at least another one had pretty high resistance compared to the other two. Maybe that would cause easier fouling. I got the part from Autohaus for about $125 shipped. Very easy to replace.
I used this helpful write up to test:<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/1594531.phtml">https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/1594531.phtml</a</li></ul>
