1999 quattro- check engine light and AC blowing warm

I recently got a 1999 2.8 quattro with about 140k miles on it. My check engine light came on and the air conditioner blows, but it only blows warm or hot air. Anyone have any idea what it could be? Thanks :)

a) It sounds like you think the two are related. Not necessarily.
b) When a CEL lights up, there are hundreds of possible codes. No one can guess from what you've said. You need to go to an auto parts store and borrow their OBD reader as a starting point.

Any idea about the AC? I'm dying in the Florida heat!

You gotta give us more than that. Could be:

1. R34 leaked out.
2. Compressor clutch is shot.
3. Compressor is shot.
4. Pressure switch is bad and won't turn switch compressor clutch on.
5. Blower motor isn't blowing.
6. Climate Control head is screwy.

There are any number of things. I think you need to take this to someone with a VAG-COM and get codes. You need data and you don't have any.

And do some searching on these forums. Tonns of info to help you started, and you ought to learn the basics. Almost every basic question has been answered :)

My guess is door number one: bad evaporator.

...but then you all knew that...

You mean the one where you make your dash look like this?

Almost. Evap is still in that car in your pic!

You're right, I was still an hour away from the evap. And that was actually a heater core job. I left the evap in there. That was a mistake. It started leaking the next summer.
