2.8 vs 1.8 manual trans - same?
Can I use the manual trans from a 1998 A4 1.8T quattro on a 2.8 quattro?

Too heavy to ship (unless someone hires someone to do it). $280/each, $500 both, picked up. |

Too heavy to ship (unless someone hires someone to do it). One is from local parts dealer, never installed in my car (have receipt). The other is out of my running (no defunct after parking it on the roof) own car (shifting very smooth, no noise). $280/each, $500 both, picked up. |
Im pretty sure your going to need the rear diff as well cause i think the final drive is different and is matched to that trans

thanks guys, i live in england so i think delivery would be sky high, hard to find 2.8 gearbox here but there are 1.8t everywhere lol

Obviously not an issue for FWD (A4 and Passat) |

If you're in England, you may wish to consider mine. It's still in the car, and still drives, so can be tested.

fund out the 1.8Tand the 2both have the same final drive so no need to swap out the rear diff however, the 2.8 has a 0789 5th gear vs a .838 5th for the 1.8t this equates to about a 300rpm drop at 65 for slightly better fuel economy, Also 1st gear for the 1.8T is 3.778 vs 3.5 for the 2.8 which means acceleration in 1st will be slightly slower.

Hi! Looking at £95 for the trans, plus whatever shipping costs. Most pallet deliveries are £65.

so will the 1.8 quattro box fit my 2.8 quattro?? any modifications???
if its straight bolt on using the 2.8 clutch will there be any side affects sorry really dont understand the 300 rpm drop at 65 is that 65mph, will i be able to get any performance out of it. |
The swap is a direct bolt in. Im sorry if your running a 2.8 you will have a 300 rpm increase at cruising speed as well as quicker acceleration. Vice versa if your running a 1.8T. Many people with highly modified 1.8Ts like 2.8 transmissions because it allows them to keep the car in 4th at the end of the 1/4 mile without redlining.

This is important. Your A4Q will not like having different ratios at each end of the car.
3 bar stated: "fund out the 1.8Tand the 2both have the same final drive so no need to swap out the rear diff" If that i verified, rear can stay as is. Is front to rear shaft the same 1.8T vs. 2.8? |
:-)
thanks guys just paying credit card off then im buying, car will only drive in first gear and slips in every other gear but the gear box 1st gear is noisy as hell, glad its not a automatic lol
