2000 Audi A4 1.8T 5-sp will not start
Hello,
I have a 2000 Audi A4 1.8T 5-sp. The only upgrades that were done by the previous owner are a performance chip and a larger turbo from an Audi TT.
The car was in an accident that rear ended someone else. Car ran great before the accident. The radiator support, radiator, coolant hoses, both engine fans (electric and manual) were replaced. What's left to be replaced are the hood, grill, and headlights. Possibly the bumper also. Would like to get car running before buying the rest of the parts.
The car was throwing a code of P0341 (cam sensor) which makes sense since the cam sensor was hit in the accident when the radiator and support were pushed into the front of the motor breaking the timing belt cover. The car will turn over but will not start (not even a sputter). A local mechanic thought it sounded like a crank/speed sensor since it turns over but will not start, so I replaced that also and still nothing. Timing belt looks to be intact with no damage.
Any ideas? The P0341 code is still being thrown.
What's the easiest way to check if fuel and spark available?
Thank you for your time,
Carlo

The ECU will not give you spark if it can't detect the cam timing.
Have you replaced the cam sensor?
Was it new?
Have you cleared the codes with VCDS to ensure the codes aren't old?
If so, check the wiring...

Thank you for the reply twentysevenlitres.
Yes I replaced the cam sensor and the crank/speed sensor with new parts. The code was cleared. But the code came back after attempting to start the car. I have to admit though I'm using a generic OBD II scanner and not the VCDS scan software so there might be more going on that my scanner is unable to detect.
I'll check the wiring to the cam sensor and see if I can find a person that can scan the car with the VCDS system near my home.
Thanks and have a great day. Audi044
