Default 2001 A4 Oil Leaks..Cam Chain Tensioner Gaskets?

Hello All,

So the other day I was driving my A4 and heard an audible "poof" followed by large amounts of smoke pouring out the back of the car..Long story short I open up the hood and there is oil leaking all over the passenger side exhaust manifold. I have done a bit of homework on this leak and am coming to the conclusion that my cam chain tensioner gasket has failed, most likely due to a plugged pcv system..Here's the catch..after inspecting the Pcv system I have found partial blockage/buildup of gunk in the hoses, but the suction valve was clean as a whistle and seems to be operating normally. I noticed that when i unplugged hose from the green one way valve that there was still a large amount of pressure released days after the car had last run..is this normal?
I guess my overall question to you members is how exactly does this pcv system work, what are some common plugging points and is there perhaps another underlying problem i'm still unaware of? I'm confident i can fix the leak, just unsure why it happened so sudden.

Any Input would be greatly appreciated.
Guten Tag!
-Jim

Not sure where the plug is in your crankcase ventilation system but it's in there. I insatlled a complete new system when I had a similar problem. It was easier than trying to figure out which part was clogged. I picked up a kit from Blau which worked well.

You know what you need to do to the VCG etc. after you get a new set of those really fragile tubes.
