Sounds like the sticker price to me.
If it is a 98, you should get close to invoice.
If it is a 99, something in the ballpark of 5% above sticker is ok, the lower the better.
See www.edmunds.com and carpoint.msn.com for invoice and sticker prices.
Default $36,000 is too high...$33,900 or less.

I'm awaiting delivery of my '99 A4 2.8 with all options except phone and tiptronic. It took me 2 dealerships but I got them down to $33,900 including destination. I'd bet if you look around you'll find an even better deal. KR

Default 5% above INVOICE (not sticker)

If it is a 99, something in the ballpark of 5% above sticker is ok, the lower the better.
Sorry, major typo there, I meant to say 5% above invoice.
Also, never negotiate from sticker down, always negotiate from invoice up.

I would have to agree with the rest of the comments voiced in this forum. $36,000 is a bit steep. I recently landed a 99' A4 2.8 Silver with putty cowette interior for $31,000 from a decent dealer in the S.F. Bay area. The entire sales process took around two hours. I spent the second of those two hours trying to get another 1k off the price but I was late for a friends wedding and went with what I thought was a decent price. My 99' has the all-weather package, CD-Changer and sunroof. While I could have gone for the real leather and better sport suspension, these are items I can easily address later on.. Good luck.

Default That's what I paid

But this was back in Feb. when these cars were still red-hot, at least in L.A. I would hope you could come off MSRP this time of year.
I, too am awaiting (January) my A4 2.8 with all options except sport package and sport seats. Agreed upon price: $2300 over invoice. (Invoice for my package is 32086, so for the math-challenged, final cost is 34386.00. That's 7% above dealer invoice. I did find cheaper deals up and down the West coast (I made a LOT of calls--the best deal was 1700 over invoice, or 5%, and included a 300 mile drive to pick it up), but found my local dealer fell in right around average, better than many, and I liked his service dept. and proximity to my abode. So, for $600 more than the 'best price I could find', it's a good deal.
