Default A-4 Purchase

Hey all, i am new to the board, but have posted on the A-6 forum. I may also be interested in buying an A-4, and would like to know what to look for, what to avoid, etc. I am not looking to buy a new one, but a nice used one. has to have quattro, but which is better, the 2.8 or the turbo? thanks for all your help!

Default Define "better".....what is important? Reliability, Comfort, Quiet, perfomance, modifications?

If you are looking at A6's my guess is that you would be happier with the 2.8. Its good power out of the box, and very smooth on the highway, adn fun too. Also, if you have the money to but the A6 and you like the styling of the A4, strongly consider an S4.

Default Oh no, am I really going to get into a 2.8 vs 1.8 argument? Well, here goes........

*cup in place, flamesuit buttoned*

The 2.8 drives better in stock form than the 1.8T does. You've got more power (more noticeable with earlier models that sport only 150hp from the 1.8), and if you do lot os highway driving you'll notice the V6 is less "buzzy" than the turbo.

Having said that, there are NO mods out there for the V6. You can thro a throttloe body on it, maybe an exhaust and a (bogus?) chip, but for the fun factor go with a 1.8 because for a few hundred bucks you can boost it up quite nicely.

In retrospect, I have no regrets with my 2.8. Trouble free, adequate power, and it exhibits a smooth and quiet drive, as a luxury car should. Also, I got leather and the 1.8 doesn't! HAH!

I'm lucky I've got the Mustang to satisfy my need for speed, otherwsie the mod bug would be telling me to get a 1.8 and mod the bejeezus out of it. Drive a 1.8 and a 2.8 back to back and you'll determine for yourself which one you want/like/need.

How is the long term reliability with the 1.8 with modifications?
