Default 8th Official South Fla VW/Audi GTG March 2, 2002 at Markham Park - 100+ cars!

OK, Everyone...this is the official announcement! E-mails will be going out to the mailing list today or tomorrow!

The 8th Official South Fla VW / Audi GTG is scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2002 at Markham Park!! As usual, the GTG will kick off at 11AM, however we have made a lot of changes to the GTG, which we think will make it much better for everyone. First of all, the GTG itself is still free...no admission is charged to attend the GTG, except Markham Park's admission fee. However, in order to provide everyone in attendance with sufficient food and drink, and to better organize our supplies, we are charging a nominal fee for the BBQ and drinks.

You may pay for food and drinks in advance to our Paypal account which has been set up by Steve (SSVR6@hotmail.com), and save some money...$3.00 in cash (If you wish to pay by Credit Card, the charge will be $3.50) to the Paypal account will get you unlimited food and drink. If you decide to pay at the GTG, we will charge $4.00. Note: we will NOT be making a profit for this event. If we collect more money for food and drinks than we spent to stage the GTG, we will either roll the money over to the next GTG and reduce future charges, or we will donate excess money to a charity, to be designated in advance. We will let you know of any decision before the GTG. More information about the Paypal account will be posted by Steve in this thread. If you wish to pay in advance in person, you can e-mail me (sflavwaudigtg@aol.com) to make arrangements with a pickup member in your area before the GTG.

Also new to this GTG - anyone purchasing a food & drink ticket will also be entered in a raffle for giveaway prizes, to be determined at the GTG. Some of the prizes may be model-specific, so we may separate them into Audi and VW groups at time of purchase. Raffle items are being donated by various local and national VW / Audi vendors.

Food and drink tickets will be sold from 11AM until first food service (appr. 12:30-1PM). The raffle will be held before the close of the GTG. The event will run officially until 5:30PM...we must begin cleanup and be ready to clear the park by 6PM. No improper conduct will be tolerated inside park grounds. This includes speeding, reckless driving, or racing. The park is a family venue, and is filled with children, bicyclists, rollerbladers, joggers, and animals. Please adhere to all park rules. Rangers will be notified in advance of our presence, and we have authorized the notification of police without responsibility to the GTG attendees or its organizers.

Markham Park is located North of Weston, at the northwest corner of Sawgrass Expressway and I-595. Those who know the area, please post directions to the park from all directions! I do know from I-595 West, exit 136th Street onto the adjacent SR84, and stay parallel to I595 for a few miles. Markham Park will be on the right.

Once at the park gate, you will enter the park, and turn left at the first intersection. Follow the road around and into the camping grounds. You will go about ¾ mile down that road, until you see a half-moon shaped parking loop on the left side of the road, and a sign posted for pavilion #1. I will also have some of our own signage there, and I will be there early as usual to set up, so look for my Passat!

As usual, please post here if you will be attending. Hopefully a local Weston person can post directions to the parkon this thread. The flyers will be ready in a day or two for anyone wanting to print one out for their local area.

This event will be fantastic! Some vendors have already sent raffle prizes, and some have even donated funds for supplies and staging the event! I hope to see everyone who has attended the previous events and a bunch of new faces. Those coming from Tampa...we have just saved you ½ hour of your drive!! And for anyone from Dade county, or from the Central East Coast, coming in via the Sawgrass or I-75 in Broward county will be MUCH smoother and less crowded than I-95! See you all soon!!

Well the 8th Official GTG is in the books! And it turned out to be everything I was hoping for it to be as a fitting 1 year anniversary. We had monster attendance - final unofficial count was AT LEAST 104 cars, and by counting up the tickets purchased, we had over 160 people (since some just attended and did not buy food tix). The food being purchased by just three of us worked out brilliantly, as we had plenty of it, and it was all on time. I welcome comments and other pictures here for anyone who wants to post them.

Audi attendance was excellent, with at least 24 Audis...including lots of A4s, lots of S4s, S4 avants, several TTs, an A6, and two nice Quattro Coupes!
