'96 A4 2.8 problem
Hey all, I'm Tom and am a V8 Audi guy and have an issue with a friend's car. The hydraulic pump seized blocks away, so my friend's son figured he'd leave it in my driveway about a month ago. Finally got the used pump, and it was a piece of cake compared to the V8. Had to undo some of the coil pack wires to get them out of the way, and labeled them. Took it on a test drive this morning, and it's definatly not running on all cylinders. I rechecked all the wires, and even tested all 3 coils. Check engine light was on before, but I'm pretty sure it ran better as I only got a block away before turning back, and he takes the highway, and there's no way this is going on the highway. Heard about the Power Output Stage(POS for short.....Ha)...Any help would be appreciated. I don't own a code reader, as I blink out all my codes(and if there's a way, I'd love to hear it), and was on my way to the parts store that will use the reader in the lot, but it really didn't even want to drive there, Tom

Maybe you plugged the spark plug wire back incorrectly. There should be a label on the coil pack to show the arrangement. I assume that you have those three coil back where they were originally!

Good advice indeed as I somehow got 2 swapped even after labeling them...Thanks
After clearing the "random missfire" code, I got PO763 Shift Solenoid C. The tranny was rebuilt about a year ago, and he said it went into limp mode about a week before the steering pump went. I was going to check the wiring/connectors...Anyone know where Solenoid C is?...Hope it's not in the valve body. Thanks, Tom

All of the transmissions solenoid valves are mounted to the valve body. I don't remember what "C" does, but I think they all control fluid to either clutches or brakes. If you are lucky, just the connector pins are corroded. Connector is at front of trans, near driver's side driveshaft flange.
