96 A4Q 2.8 rough idle Please help!!!!!!!
Please help!!!!!!!
had rough idle and vag-com says misfire
cylinder 3
i searched the forum and might be the
ignition amplifier or coil packs?
well, i tried some fuel injection cleaner,
changed the spark plug on #3 Cylind but no help
and i am about to swap around the coil packs,
and i need some detaied instructions..
looking at the coil packs,
i see the 3 rows of coil packs
row one: 3 = 5 (cyl 3 and cyl 5 are connected)
row two: 2 = 4
row three: 1 = 6
and the firing sequence:1-4-3-6-2-5
do i just unplug the wire going into 3 and
then swap with 2? and see if the misfire goes to 2?
and the spark plug wires have different lenghts
and will they reach?
and if i do switch around the wires will i
screw up the engine b/c they'll fire in
different sequence?
and
what other things besides coil packs?
ignition amplifier, MAF? thanks!!!

You may have the problem i'm fixing right now.....
We technically dont have coil packs on or engine. We have a coil power out stage or some thing like that, its on top of our air box. Thats where the output stages come from, there are 3 of them(not parts, 3stages). But i have been having rough starts more than idle, I ordered the new part form audi for 220 yesterday, normally ther are about 300 but my dad some how got a 20 percent discount on it, so maybe you could try that out. But dont guy buying messing around with things before you know whats up. Go 2 your audi dealer and get some body smart to look at for free, thats what they did for me! Go 2 the the 12valve forum for better help!

UPDATE- problem fixed..
It was the Ignition Amplifier
ontop of the airbox causing the
misfires.. apparently it's a common
problem in these ealier A4's
was an easy fix- plug and play...
should have borrowed a friends part to
trouble shoot..
